November 21st, 2017 No Comments

The good news 1st.  All three African elephants Mikia, Lovely and Lou have arrived safely to the winter resting spot in Sarasota, Fla.  Although, the trip was anything but a normal winter get away to Florida.

According to News Channel 9 the tractor trailer that was traveling to the winter resting spot in Sarasota Fla. with the elephants caught fire.  This happened on I-24 in Tennessee near the Georgia boarder around 2 a.m.  The truck driver acted quickly and immediately pulled over and called for emergency crews.

This images from the Chattanooga Fire Department and Dedrick Rashaun Hicks really tell the story.

The elephants were out of the truck but in good hands. The owners were able to get the 3 elephants rounded up and fed them to keep them calm while the firefighters did their thing.

“They were huge but well behaved” added Fire Chief Morgan.

We are glad this story ended nicely.  But what a night of travel.
